The Malaysian independent music scene has had a considerably long history since the late 1980s/ early 1990s. The explosion of numerous bands, each with a different style and genre had really added colours onto the then mundane local music industry’s canvas. Three decades have passed and now the local independent music scene has shown resilience, maturity, and identity. When the whole world was struck by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, many of these bands’ activities were halted. They lost their source of income and were forced to face a very challenging period in their lives. Realising that they needed a stronger base to hedge against all uncertainties, Indie Alliance was formed with the hope that this alliance can help to pave a bigger and better path for them. Indie Alliance is not only for these four bands – Gerhana Skacinta, The Times, Subculture, and Joanna & Co. It is open to all independent music acts to find a stronger base and a more healthy ecosystem. This concert is just the beginning. Many more exciting journeys to come. Stay tuned.
