What is sourdough? In simple words, sourdough is slow-fermented bread. It’s unique because it does not require commercial yeast in order to rise. Instead, it’s made with a live fermented culture, a sourdough starter, which acts as a natural leavening agent.
Sourdough is known for its characteristic tangy flavour, chewy texture and crisp, crackly crust. From a health standpoint, it dominates when compared to supermarket loaves. The naturally occurring acids and long fermentation help to break down the gluten, making it more digestible and easy for the body to absorb. And it tastes amazing!
In this workshop we will guide you through:
1. Techniques of using a sourdough starter, and maintaining one.
2. Hands on learning of kneading methods & shaping into bagels
3. Flavours & customisation of your bagels
4. Baking & knowing when it’s done
5. Tasting session
At the end of the workshop, you will bring home bring home 6 freshly baked bagels & a dough to recreate another 6 at home. This workshop requires no experience, but a curious heart is welcomed!
We like to keep our workshops small and comfy, only 4 slots are available.
